To the outside world, it had been forty years since Henry Stein set foot in the home he’d once shared with his wife Linda.
For Henry, it had been even longer.
Joey Drew wasn’t the type of man to do things for no reason. Over the course of the decade since they’d first met, Henry had learned that much. Every word he said was carefully chosen, every decision calculated. He could put on a pretty good act of being enthusiastic and impulsive, but that was just another carefully planned part of his overall strategy.
The problem came when Henry didn’t know what goal, exactly, Joey was working towards.
“They say the eyes are the window to the soul!” Joey declared, leaning against the side of Henry’s desk. “Our new mascot should have nice, big eyes, so everyone can sympathize with ‘em, even in the back of the theater!”
Henry nodded, adding that to the list of Joey’s requirements for the new character he was supposed to design.
